“Good To Be On The Road Back Home Again”, Cornershop

This way: Good To Be On The Road Back Home Again

Make way for a Lady (with Paula Frazer). Cornershop are a British indie rock band best known for their single "Brimful of Asha", originally released in 1997 and, in a remixed version, topping the UK chart in 1998. The band was formed in 1991 by Wolverhampton-born Tjinder Singh (singer, songwriter, and guitar), his brother Avtar Singh (bass guitar, vocals), David Chambers (drums) and Ben Ayres (guitar, keyboards, and tamboura), the first three having previously been members of Preston-based band General Havoc, who released one single (the "Fast Jaspal EP") in 1991. The band name originated from a stereotype referring to British Asians often owning corner shops. Their music is a fusion of Indian music, indie rock, alternative and electronic dance music.

“Annie”, The Dodos

This way: Annie

The Dodos are an American indie rock band consisting of Meric Long and Logan Kroeber. The Dodos began playing music together in 2005, when musician Meric Long, who had been gigging steadily in San Francisco as a solo singer-songwriter, was introduced to Logan Kroeber through a mutual friend (a college acquaintance of Long's that happened to be Kroeber's cousin). The Dodos are a band of two, clean-cut halves. One of the duo was a student of West African Ewe drumming and intricate Blues fingerpicking guitar, the other hails from a background in heavy metal bands. Going from the raw, acoustic roots-rock on their albums ‘Visiter’ and ‘No Color’ to the more expansive, pop sound of ‘Time to Die’ and ‘Carrier’; guitarist-vocalist Meric Long and drummer Logan Kroeber have spent their career seeking to blur the line between the inherently melodic nature of Long's guitar and the rhythmic, atonal clatter of Kroeber's drums. The album ‘Individ’ can be seen as a resolution of this duality, combining their old acoustic sensibilities with an expansive vision and sound, and this performance served as further proof.

“One Hundred Years”, The Cure

This way: One Hundred Years

It doesn't get much better than The Cure. Pornography is the fourth studio album by English rock band The Cure, released on 4 May 1982 by Fiction Records. Preceded by the non-album single "Charlotte Sometimes", it was the band's first album with new producer Phil Thornalley, and was recorded at RAK Studios from January to April 1982. The sessions saw the band on the brink of collapse, with heavy drug use, band in-fighting, and frontman Robert Smith's depression fueling the album's musical and lyrical content. Pornography represents the conclusion of the Cure's early dark, gloomy musical phase, which began with their second album Seventeen Seconds (1980).

“Think I Need it Too”, Echo and the Bunnymen

This way: Think I Need it Too

When it falls to the wayside and im stumbling up from below ground level, I see the truth in the songs that play inside my head. That is the ultimate truth that I will tell myself. That is the green stain on a knee run thru. Let's agree to disagree as to what the moments will tell us. This is the band that bleeds beneath the surface of me. I may listen to this on repeat a few 50 times now.

“Broken English”, Marianne Faithful

This way: Broken English

Marianne Faithfull (born 29 December 1946) is an English singer and actress. She achieved popularity in the 1960s with the release of her hit single "As Tears Go By" and became one of the lead female artists during the British Invasion in the United States.

Born in Hampstead, London, Faithfull began her career in 1964 after attending a Rolling Stones party, where she was discovered by Andrew Loog Oldham. Her debut album Marianne Faithfull (1965) (released simultaneously with her album Come My Way) was a commercial success followed by a number of albums on Decca Records. From 1966 to 1970, she had a highly publicised romantic relationship with Mick Jagger. Her popularity was further enhanced by her film roles, such as those in I'll Never Forget What's'isname (1967), The Girl on a Motorcycle (1968), and Hamlet (1969). However, her popularity was overshadowed by personal problems in the 1970s. During that time she was anorexic, homeless, and a heroin addict.

This from a near perfect LP of 1979.

“Love is the Drug”, Roxy Music

This way: Love is the Drug

Roxy Music were an English rock band formed in 1970 by Bryan Ferry—who became the band's lead singer and main songwriter—and bass guitarist Graham Simpson. The other longtime members were Phil Manzanera (guitar), Andy Mackay (saxophone and oboe), and Paul Thompson (drums and percussion). Other members included Brian Eno (synthesizer and 'treatments'), Eddie Jobson (synthesizer and violin), and John Gustafson (bass). Although the band took a break from group activities in 1976 and again in 1983, they reunited for a concert tour in 2001, and toured together intermittently over the next few years. Ferry frequently enlisted band members as session musicians for his solo releases. This from 1975.

“No Mutuals”, Fake Fruit

This way: No Mutuals

San Francisco-based Fake Fruit, available digitally on Fire Talk imprint Open Tab.  Lead vocalist Hannah D'Amato's acerbic wit is bitingly emphatic, providing a necessary vantage point into the absurdities and emotion of human connection, and Bandcamp christened the trio “our new no-bullshit harbingers of disgruntled punk.”  The new single takes the best of the band’s keen ear for melody and flips it into an impossibly catchy anthem that full of melancholic yearning.  The band’s “electrifying” (Pitchfork) brand of nervy guitars and call-and-return vocals have made them one of the new names to know in indie rock.

“Vitamin C”, Can

This way: Vitamin C

Can was a German experimental rock band formed in Cologne in 1968 by the core quartet of Holger Czukay (bass, tape editing), Irmin Schmidt (keyboards), Michael Karoli (guitar), and Jaki Liebezeit (drums). The group cycled through several vocalists, most prominently the American-born Malcolm Mooney (1968–70) and the Japanese-born Damo Suzuki (1970–73), as well as various temporary members.

Can also had occasional commercial success, with singles such as "Spoon" and "I Want More" reaching national singles charts. They have been widely hailed as pioneers of the German krautrock scene, and a considerable influence on subsequent rock, post-punk, ambient, and electronic music.

“Everything Louder Than Everything Else”, Meat Loaf, R.I.P.

This way: Everything Louder Than Everything Else

One of my guiltiest of guilty pleasures has to be Meat Loaf. Something about his music just grabs me, it is so overblown. This is my favorite song by him, although I could have picked from a large roster of great tunes. Bat out of Hell and Bat out of Hell 2 (who does album sequels?) are super fantastic in my book. Anyway, sorry to see him go, he killed it. Meat Loaf, was an American singer and actor. He was noted for his powerful, wide-ranging voice and theatrical live shows. His Bat Out of Hell trilogy—Bat Out of Hell, Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell, and Bat Out of Hell III: The Monster Is Loose—has sold more than 65 million albums worldwide. More than four decades after its release, the first album still sells an estimated 200,000 copies annually and stayed on the charts for over nine years, making it one of the best-selling albums in history.

“Memory Lane”, Eddy Current Suppression Ring

This way: Memory Lane

Eddy Current Suppression Ring are an Australian rock band formed in 2003. Eddy Current Suppression Ring formed in 2003 in Melbourne when two brothers "Danny Current" (Daniel Gordon Young) on drums and Mikey aka "Eddy Current" (Michael David Young) on guitar and keyboard, started jamming at the Christmas party at the Corduroy Records vinyl pressing plant where Mikey worked. They encouraged now-lead singer "Brendan Suppression" (Brendan Huntley) who also worked there, to ad-lib vocals into a tape recorder. The subsequent tape prompted the band's first recording, which produced a 7-inch single with A-side Get Up Morning. They were joined by "Rob Solid" (Brad Raymond Barry) on bass guitar.

The band's name derived from members recalling another employee at the pressing plant stating he had to fix the eddy current suppression ring - a copper ring around a transformer which subdues eddy currents.

The Scientists is a punk band from Perth, Western Australia, led by Kim Salmon, initially known as the Exterminators and then the Invaders. The band had two primary incarnations: the Perth-based punk band of the late 1970s and the Sydney/London-based swamp rock band of the 1980s. This from a 1979 single.

In October 2010, Blood Red River (1983) was included in the list in the book 100 Best Australian Albums.

“I Must not Think Bad Thoughts”, X

This way:  Must not Think Bad Thoughts

X is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles. The original members are vocalist Exene Cervenka, vocalist-bassist John Doe, guitarist Billy Zoom and drummer D. J. Bonebrake. The band released seven studio albums from 1980 to 1993. After a period of inactivity during the mid-to-late 1990s, X reunited in the early 2000s, and currently tours, as of 2021.

X achieved limited mainstream success but influenced various genres of music, including punk rock, Americana,[4] and folk rock, and is considered one of the most influential bands of their era. In 2003, X's first two studio albums, Los Angeles and Wild Gift, were ranked by Rolling Stone as being among the 500 greatest albums of all time. Los Angeles was ranked 91st on Pitchfork's Top 100 Albums of the 1980s. This from 1983.

“Invisible Thing”, Dazy

This way: Invisible Thing

Dazy’s 2021 compilation proved to be so much more than its eye-catching name. And sure, this release has plenty of thundering girth, but the band pairs it with classic, tuneful pop, which, in my book, is one of the most lethal combinations in all of music. Virginia-based musician James Goodson is the sole mastermind behind Dazy, and this latest release collects everything the band’s put out so far—two EPs plus four singles with accompanying b-sides—along with a handful of previously unreleased songs. Recorded at home with a lone mic and amp, these songs are loaded with lo-fi rock goodness of the power pop and Britpop varieties, and some of the vocals even have an emo-adjacent charm.

“Trailer Trash”, Modest Mouse

This way: Trailer Trash

Modest Mouse is an American rock band formed in 1992 in Issaquah, Washington, and currently based in Portland, Oregon. The founding members are lead singer/guitarist Isaac Brock, drummer Jeremiah Green, and bassist Eric Judy. Strongly influenced by Pavement, Pixies, XTC, and Talking Heads, the band rehearsed, rearranged, and recorded demos for almost two years before finally signing with small-town indie label K Records and releasing numerous singles.

Since their 1996 debut album, This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About, the band's lineup has mostly centered on Brock and Green, undergoing multiple changes. The band achieved mainstream success with their fourth album, Good News for People Who Love Bad News (2004), and its singles "Float On" and "Ocean Breathes Salty". Judy performed on every Modest Mouse album until his departure in 2012. Guitarist Johnny Marr (formerly of the Smiths) joined the band in 2006, shortly following percussionist Joe Plummer (formerly of the Black Heart Procession) and multi-instrumentalist Tom Peloso, to work on the album We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank (2007). Guitarist Jim Fairchild joined the band in 2009. The band's sixth album, Strangers to Ourselves, was released on March 17, 2015. Their seventh album, The Golden Casket, released on June 25, 2021.

“Garbageman”, Cramps

This way: Garbageman

It doesn't get much better than this. The Cramps were an American rock band formed in 1976 and active until 2006. The band split after the death of lead singer Lux Interior in 2009. Their line-up rotated frequently during their existence, with the husband-and-wife duo of Interior and lead guitarist and occasional bass guitarist Poison Ivy comprising the only ever-present members. The addition of guitarist Bryan Gregory and drummer Pam Balam resulted in the first complete lineup in April 1976.

They were part of the early CBGB punk rock movement that had emerged in New York. The Cramps were one of the first punk bands, and also widely recognized as one of the prime innovators of psychobilly, a style fusing the basic musical elements of rockabilly with grotesque lyrical themes inspired by horror movies and other macabre topics.

“The Garbage Who Talked”, Thuh Advo-Cats

This way: The Garbage Who Talked

In 1979 I was ambling thru the desert backwoods looking for the direction up. Ramones said hello and I found myself with desires beyond my bedroom stage. I was in league with Adam, Mark and Bruce in pursuit of Rock and Roll pointing north. We actually rehearsed in a garage in the early days and eventually all move in together in a house we called Casa Del Sublime. Everything in Arizona is called Casa Del something. As we toiled away on our Rock and Roll it became painfully obvious that we were two headed and going in different directions. Bruce and I decided to go it alone. We formed thuh Advo-Cats in the living room of that house and commenced to writin' songs. We decided that we played a form of music called Pop-no-vat. We got our band listed in the New Times Weekly band directory. And we soon began getting calls and doing shows. Our entire band and equipment fit snugly into Bruces Toyota. Bruce played drums, I played bass and sang. I used a thick leather glove on my left hand for effect and off we headed into the annuls of “I don’t remember”. Sometimes you are 18 when you write yonder masterpiece.

The Trashmen were an American surf rock band formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States, in 1962. The original line-up of the group featured guitarists Tony Andreason and Dal Winslow, bassist Bob Reed, and drummer Steve Wahrer.

Along with Colorado-based contemporaries the Astronauts, The Trashmen have been described as "the premier landlocked Midwestern surf group of the '60s." The band took their name from "Trashman's Blues", a song written and recorded in 1961 by Minneapolis musician Kai Ray (Richard Caire, 1935–2017), who later wrote songs for the band.

“Trash”, New York Dolls

This way: Trash

The New York Dolls were an American rock band formed in New York City in 1971. Along with the Velvet Underground and the Stooges, they were one of the bands later credited as influences of the soon to be punk scene and performed twice a week regularly at the Oscar Wilde Room of the Mercer Arts Center. In the band's early days, Ruby and the Rednecks used to open for them at the gigs and were greatly inspired by them. Although the band never achieved much commercial success and their original line-up fell apart quickly, the band's first two albums—New York Dolls (1973) and Too Much Too Soon (1974)—became among the most popular cult records in rock. The line-up at this time comprised vocalist David Johansen, guitarist Johnny Thunders, bassist Arthur Kane, guitarist and pianist Sylvain Sylvain and drummer Jerry Nolan; the latter two had replaced Rick Rivets and Billy Murcia, respectively, in 1972. On stage, they donned an androgynous wardrobe, wearing high heels, eccentric hats, satin, makeup, spandex, and dresses. Nolan described the group in 1974 as "the Dead End Kids of today". After Thunders, Nolan and Kane all left in spring 1975, Johansen and Sylvain continued the band with other musicians until the end of 1976.

“Walking on my Grave”, Dead Moon

This way: Walking on my Grave

It doesn’t get much better than this. Dead Moon was an American punk rock band active from 1987 to 2006, formed in Portland, Oregon.

Fronted by the singer/guitarist Fred Cole, the band also included the bass guitarist Toody Cole and the drummer Andrew Loomis. Veterans of Portland's independent rock scene, Dead Moon combined dark and lovelorn themes with punk and country music influences into a stripped-down sound. Fred Cole engineered most of the band's recordings and mastered them on a mono recording lathe that was used for The Kingsmen's version of "Louie Louie". Their early records, such as In the Graveyard, were released on the Tombstone Records label, named for the musical equipment store the Coles operated at the time. Soon they caught the attention of the German label Music Maniac Records, and toured Europe successfully.[citation needed] Not until the mid-1990s did they tour the United States. Much of their following was in Europe.
